Primary five

This year P5A are up the stairs in room 17. We have a landing which is our cloakroom and our own stair which we share with Mrs Wallace. It is quite a small room and can get rather hot. We have 3 new pupils in our class-2 boys and 1 girl. We go swimming every Tuesday afternoon to Drumbrae leisure centre. We go by bus and take 2 helpers with us. We have 2 swimming teachers and we are all enjoying it. We also go to touch rugby every Wednesday before breaktime at St Margarets park. At
rugby we first do a couple of games and then 5 minutes of skills after that we do matches for 5-10 minutes.

Our project is about shadows. We have been

going into groups of three. With a rubber

and a torch we shone the torch at the rubber

and tried different angles to get theshadow

bigger.

September 2009

Primary 5B have been working very hard. We have been reading a class book called Fighting Back. We all love it and every chapter ends with a cliffhanger and the teacher always says ‘and that is the end of that chapter!’ Our science topic is light and sound. We have done many experiments including looking at what is reflective and what is not. Our conclusion was that it has to be bright and shiny to be reflective. We learned that all light travels in straight lines and must come from a source. The class also came up with a game like port and starboard but a light version. For drama we have been pretending to be going to meetings about the elderly. We also pretended that we were blind and that we were adults, trying to persuade our mums to go into a nursing home.
We have recently done fantastic autumn poems filled with some descriptive colour words. They are all brilliant and describe autumn very accurately.

Rainbow World

Ruby seas of leaves
Jade green everywhere
Streams of emerald and jewels of bronze
I could swim in pools here and there
Mustard and golden yellow
Colour bombs and flying flowers
Henna, plum and poppy red
Everywhere I can see colours all about me
Scarlet, rose and wine
I would fall asleep under the trees all intertwined.

As part as are project, we made a display out of posters about light. Every one is about a different thing. We made our posters in groups of 4 and 5. The display is fabulous and it shows how hard we have worked.

November: p5c

In art we had lots of fun making pictures of Autumn trees we see in the the play ground. Our techniques were mixing colours, creating a colour wash, dragging and even finger painting. We made a washy coloured sky and if you had you paper horizontally you could put three trees at the most but if your paper was going vertically then you could only put in one tree. Once you made the tree you put autumn colours on your fingers and printed them on the page.

In PSD we were discussing what pupils might worry about in school and we came up with falling out with friends, people being unkind, finding work too hard, not understanding the instructions you have been given, breaking or not understanding rules and bullying. The biggest number of worries were people getting bullied and people being unkind to each other. The least number of worries were people finding work too hard and people not understanding the instructions.
In drama we discussed sensible strategies to deal with worries. Once we thought of them all we decided what strategies we wanted to act out so we got into groups and decided on the worry. After we decided on our worry we thought about how we could put it in a role play. Then we made a poster on how to deal with worries on help other people who might have a worry that we discussed.
