Updated class pages and news items!
This year P.4 have been learning about invertebrates and vertebrates. Invertebrates are animals with no backbone and vertebrates are animals with a backbone. We have a book to put all the information in. The first half was for invertebrates and the second half was for vertebrates. We could either draw the animals or we could print them. We also made posters. We got into groups of four to make them. We could only draw the pictures though. We could either have the paper landscape or portrait. Our teacher brought snails into our classroom for us to look at. One of the snails was very active everyone could see it eating. One had some paint on it.

September

P4 wrote poems about a creature. We had to begin with a preposition, follow a three line model and use at least 2 or 3 adjectives. Before we wrote our poems we had to do a plan. We designed our plans like a mind map. We also had to use an adverb and a verb. We also had to write a set of instructions of how to build a time machine. We had to use imperatives(bossy words.)

P4 have done a piece of art like an autumn scene. We went out into the playground and took some rubbings. After that we collected sticks and leaves. Then we went inside and started our art. We had to include texture and autumn colours. We also did some art like Piccaso's art. We used oil pastels. This year we also did some posters about Islam. They had to include at least 2 moving parts. Some groups were working on mosques, some on the history of Islam.
P4 are using VCOP to improve their writing. V = Vocabulary C = Connectives O = Openers P = Punctuation. We get 1's,2's and 3's in our writing. If you get a 1 you are at the start of the level, if you get a 2 you are at the middle of the level and if you get a 3 then you are ready to go to the next level. By Hannah Mccoll.

November

On Wednesday afternoon, the sixteenth of september, we had a visit from the zoo. The zoo keeper was called Laura and she had brought us a giant African snail,a giant millipede,a baby scorpion,a madagascar hissing cockroach,a parrot,a Milk snake. This was for our vertebrates and invertebrates project. An invertebrate is an animal with no skeleton. Instead it has a skeleton on the outside. A vertebrate is an animal with a skeleton inside like us. First Laura showed us the snail. There was two snails and the first snail was called Gamy and the other one was called Samson. Some people were not keen to hold them but did it anyway. The next animal she showed us was the cockroach. She had two of them. One was a female and the other was a male. You were only allowed to hold the female because the male might hurt you. After that Laura showed us a millipede called Milly. When you felt her legs it was like a hairbrush. Then it was time for the scorpion.Of course, you weren't aloud to touch it (incase it stung you). It was kept in a box instead. Laura shone a special light over the scorpion and it shone a different colour. Then she showed us a milk snake. It wasn't dangarous (luckily). It was very long and thin. Finally she showed us a parrot named Bindie. She climbed up and down people's arms. Bindie was also an inspector of pencils. At someone's desk there was a pencil and a bit of paper. At first she climbed onto his arm then she climbed back down and started writing. The pencil was half in her mouth and half in her foot - it was really funny. We had fact file quizes where a pupil comes out, reads some information about one animal, then that person asks a question about what they have just read then the other children guesses the answer.
